In order to get your album on beneaththestreet.com, you must first print and fill out our Artist Submission Form (PDF version or Word Document version), which contains basic information about yourself. When that is completed, simply mail the application and one CD to:

You do not need to upload any music, we will put audio samples on your product page and make your album available for purchase. Do to the fact that beneaththestreet.com is an online independent hip-hop retail store, we must approve your music first to make sure it is what our customers are looking for. As long as it is hip-hop and independent, it is pretty much always approved,(we just can’t sell country music on a hip-hop site obviously). Once approved, we will contact you as soon as we receive your album, and then you will send us a bulk shipment (20 or more usually) of albums for us to sell on our site. When we sell the CD’s we pay you. It’s pretty much that simple.
The answer to that question is simple, nothing! On other sites which sell independent music, there are start-up fees (for example cdbaby.com charges $35 per album you want to sell). But at beneaththestreet.com, there are no fees of any kind. The only thing you have to pay for is the creation of your music project that you will send us (we do not manufacture, replicate or duplicate CD’s).
First, you must decide how much you want for your album(not how much the selling price will be, but how much money you want personally for every album sold, usually between $6-$10). Next we will mark it up from 1-4 dollars, making the CD’s final selling price between $10- $15. We never take any piece of your $6-$10. All expenses (i.e. marketing, promotion, shipping, packaging etc.) we pay for, not you.
At the end of the month, you will receive a check for the number of albums you sold (for example, if you decide you want $8 per CD and sell 10 copies in September, you will receive an $80 check at the end of September), You will also receive an invoice telling you when each album was sold, how many etc. When we are close to selling out of your album, we will contact you and ask for more. Then you simply ship more albums to us and we sell them. It’s that easy. At beneaththestreet.com we know how hard it is just to create an album. You should not have to worry about anything else except how to spend your money and we make it that simple for you.
Let me start off by saying that all the services we provide will never cost the artist anything. The money we make from selling your album (i.e. our percentage of the sale price from 1-4 dollars) covers all the services we provide. The artist will never have to pay any upfront money to beneaththestreet.com. First, we will create a product listing page specifically for your album which will include its own web address, and contains artwork, descriptions, audio samples, track listings etc. We will handle the credit card transactions for you, at no expense to you. We will take care of shipping, postage, handling, and shipping materials which again is at no cost to you. But probably the most important thing we do is introduce your music to a vast number of potential customers all over the world who come to beneaththestreet.com to find out the latest in independent hip-hop, and you will be a part of that. We have a space on our homepage which is designed for independent music only. Your music will be put in this prime advertising space for free when you decide to sell your album with beneaththestreet.com. Basically we do all the leg work involved in selling your album, and then send you a check when they sell.
To start, beneaththestreet.com is non-exclusive, so you can sell your album here as well as any other place you want. Beneaththestreet.com is just one more place to get your album exposure. In fact, we encourage artists to sell their album in as many places they can. We want you to make as much money and get as many fans as possible. However, there are benefits to selling on beneaththestreet.com in addition to other sites.
- - This means we do not own your rights or the right to sell your album. The album still belongs to you, we just sell it for you and you can sell it at any other retail store you wish. We are also not a distributor like other sites, so we don’t force you into distribution contracts like many other distributors who will, then take a large percentage of the sale price. The majority of the sale price at beneaththestreet.com goes to you the artist.
- - Unlike other sites which charge $35 and more just to sell on their site, which you have to pay out of your pocket up front, beneaththestreet.com doesn’t charge you anything. We only get money off the sale price when we sell your album. This charge is to cover our expenses, and we will never ask you for your money. You only receive checks, and you never write any (not to us anyway).
- – On other sites and in other stores that sell so much music, yours can get lost in the pile, where potential buyers cannot find it, unless you pay the site to advertise in one of their primary spaces. Not at beneaththestreet.com. Here we will guarantee you at least one week of primary advertising space on our homepage and in our store for free. This way your music will be seen, heard and purchased by a much larger number of customers than on any other site.
