Beneaththestreet.com is a New York based website, dedicated to the advancement of independent Hip-Hop. The website was founded by an independent Hip-Hop Artist to further the growth of the Hip-Hop culture. We believe that Hip-Hop is the true voice of our generation. Unfortunately, it is very difficult for independent artists to have their voices heard in the currently over-flooded music environment. Even if you are lucky enough to get a record contract (or unlucky enough in some instances), you receive very few points from the label, poor promotion, and limited creativity. If you decide to go at it yourself, without distribution, retail, and advertising connections, it is next to impossible to get exposure. Beneaththestreet.com was started specifically to solve such problems. We will give independent artists a place to be heard, without having to be exploited in the process. At the same time, we will create a marketplace where Hip-Hop enthusiasts can find a multitude of music, which would be otherwise hard to find at major retail locations. We sell many of the major independent releases, as well as a variety of music created in basement studios, which cannot be found at major retailers. We hope you will join us on our mission to bring artists and their supporters together for the betterment of Hip-Hop as a whole. Real Hip-Hop Lives…Beneath The Street!
When I think about Hip-Hop I think about the first time I heard albums such as Wu-Tang’s ‘Enter the 36 Chambers’ and Onyx’s ‘Bacdafucup’. I must have been 11 years old but I remember it like it was yesterday. I had never heard such raw, aggressive music in my life. But unfortunately, 1993 is long gone. In the last few years Hip-Hop (in the public eye) has been exploited, recycled, and turned into nothing more than a corporate run business making artists a packaged product.
When I turn on MTV and see these little teenagers singing and rapping about being hustlers and pimps I’m forced to ask the question, “What happened?” With such a vast amount of meaningful, important music that reflects us as a society, why are we force-fed this watered down trash?
In essence, this is why I started this website. Throughout my career I have met so many artists all with something important to bring to the table. But most of them are still struggling to pay their bills while they watch all these so called “Successful” rappers driving Bentleys and sipping Champaign n their videos. This site was created not only for artists to finally get their music to the masses and the respect they deserve but also for fans of Hip-Hop seeking something new other than the catchy songs kept on rotation by filling the pockets of radio stations. Although everyone has different taste in music we will give you the choice to listen to your favorite artists or maybe even discover some new ones.
With the downfall of many major music retail stores it is getting harder and harder to find the music that we’re looking for. So with the birth of beneaththestreet.com comes a new era. Music will be created and distributed by artists and with our help be available to a much greater audience. I will be glad to discuss the site and answer any questions you might have.
